My trainer, Elder Russell, in front of the chapel in Sheep Springs.
The photographer photographed!

Elder Leo Hardy (on left) and Elder Russell caught in front of a stereo
store during town trip to Farmington, NM on June 1, 1978. Elder Russel
was DL at the time and Elder Hardy was serving in Little Water, NM.

Elder Russell (in truck with head pointing left) and Elder Beyal (in
truck with head pointing right) rest their dogs after returning from an
exhausting day of shopping in Farmington, NM (June 1, 1978). Elder
Romero Brown stands at left. Elders Beyal and Brown were serving in Toadlena,
NM at the time.

ZL interviews and splits, June 2, 1978. Elder Russell in truck
with a majorly trunked-out Elder Barker (the ZL) at the wheel. Elder
Lundgreen is seen coming through the trailer doorway at far right.
Elders Barker and Lundgreen were serving in Shiprock, NM at the time.

The Elders' trailer next to the chapel at Sheep Springs. Note
the sheep(?) skull on the trailer hitch (oooooooooh.....). My notation
on the back of the photo reads "Our Mansion". When we drove up here
for there first time, I suddenly appreciated the relative comfort of the
LTM.

Distant view of the chapel at Sheep Springs with Elders' trailer to
the right of the building. |
Closer view of the Sheep Springs chapel. |
This is what you have to do when neither missionary in the companionship
has driving privileges. |
Elder Leo Hardy and friend. I think this was taken during a Mutual
event. |
I believe this photo was also taken during town trip. From back
to front we have Elders Bradshaw, Russell, Leo Hardy, and Ziegler. |
Elder Nilsson doing a little yeigo yinishta' in nihighan. Or something
like that. |
The grizzled veterans of the T'iisyaakin LTM district one month after
arriving in the field. This photo was taken at the All-Mission Conference
in Show Low, AZ during June of 1978. (This was President Lee's last
mission conference.) On the back row from left to right are Elders
Grant, Felsted, Child, Pickering, and Warnick. In the front row from
left to right are Sister Winn and myself. |
Elder Russell in front of our trailer in Sheep Springs practicing for
the rodeo. |
On the road again. From left to right: my foot, Elder Russell,
and Elder Leo Hardy. Can't remember who was sitting in the cab.
This must have been taken during my first few weeks in the field because
I am still wearing those awful Nunn Bush, Forward Thrust, mailman shoes.
Brother Togasala (sp?) of the Sheep Springs Branch eventually had mercy
on me and gave me a pair of combat boots. I wore those boots
the rest of my mission. Thanks Bro. T.! |
The softball team I played on at the Show-Low Conference in June, 1978.
I am, of course, the jackass kneeling in front with the stoopid grin on
his face. I can't remember who most of the others are. Elder
Russell is the guy in the Adidas shirt, I think. Elder Roy Mexican
is sitting left front while I think Elder Archer, his companion, is sitting
top right. I hope it is Elder Archer because he holds a special place
in my memory as the first person to speak Navajo to me outside of my LTM
group. At the Gallup airport as I manhandled my footlocker from the
terminal building to the pickup, Elder Archer asked "Ndaazish?".
The only response I could summon was, "Uhh...what?". The owner of
the finger poking in at the left is also unknown. |
A rather dark picture of a group of missionaries presenting something
at the Show Low Conference. Once again, I don't remember who most
of these people are. I'm pretty sure that Sister Gunter is in the
middle of the back row in the bright dress and Elder Leo Hardy might be
the one at the mic. |
