Companions: Elders Watson and Graul
(Click on the images below to view a larger (3x) version)
Elder Watson posing outside the Elder's house next to the defunct Fort
Defiance Trading Post (in background). The trading post and the house
were owned by the Foutz family, I believe, so we were able to live there
rent free. It wasn't that good of a deal, though, since the house
was built on the edge of ravine with the back half of the house starting
to fall into the ravine. I heard a few months after I left the area
that they finally condemned the house.

Elder Graul in much the same pose.

Sister Begay standing in the shadows of the Sisters' house behind the
Window Rock chapel.

Our district planted potatoes for a family in Crystal, NM one spring
day. I'm sorry, but I can't seem to remember all of the names here.
At far left is Elder Rodney Brown (I think) serving in Crystal as a ZL,
me, Elder Graul, Elder I-have-absolutely-no-idea (behind Elder Graul),
Elder Wursten (in yellow shirt), Sister Nielsen serving in Window Rock,
and Sister Nielsen's companion. If you recognize someone here that
I didn't, please send me an E-mail
and let me know who they are.

Here we are actually doing the planting. This picture was taken
by one of the kids who grabbed my camera without asking and snapped a few.
I was kind of ticked off about this at the time but, looking back now,
he took better pictures that I could have. Thanks, kid!

I couldn't leave the area without getting a picture of Window Rock.
Here it is, in all is glory.

Me on a windy day (how unusual!) while we were walking in Blue Canyon, north of Fort Defiance. |
A view of Black Rock (on the right), a local landmark on the outskirts of Fort Defiance. |
The entrance to Blue Canyon, just north of Fort Defiance. |
Front View of the Fort Defiance Elders' house, the part of the house that was more or less level. |
Back View of the Fort Elders' house, the part of the house that was sliding into the ravine. |
Bless this MESS: my Fort Defiance digs. |
